The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Information Health Management (HIM) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time HIM Technician 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Health Information Management (HIM) technician has a key role within the organizations upkeep of patient electronic health records. This position ensures that correct medical information including and not limited to past medical history, labs, cardiology, imaging and hospital records are present and available so that the providers have an efficient visit with patients. The HIM technician reconciles, preps, scans, and index medical records according to Department Policies and Procedure that are consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the University of Miami.
Core Job Functions
Duties include making sure that records are available in a timely manner to patients and providers and ensuring integrity of the record.
The technician must have the ability to work both individually and collaboratively, as well as effectively communicate with other team members.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
Maintains daily workflow, ensuring that documents are acquired, prepared, and scanned in a timely and efficient manner to avoid delay in availability to the Electronic Health Record.
Retrieves prior day discharge/visit documentation from assigned units on a daily basis in an expedient, efficient manner, and places the records in the appropriate area for reconciliation and prepping.
Receive and process patient records following discharge. Prep all documents received by removing staples, paper clips, sticky notes, rubber bands. Torn documents are taped; loose edges are taped down; poor-quality originals are stamped as such. Prepares all documents in number order.
Copy severely damaged documents so that they can go through scanning process without difficulty.
Scan documents and images into our Electronic Health System.
Index documents to correct patient, encounter, and document type.
Ensure timely processing of electronic files from from multifunction devices or email according to procedures.
Able to provide coverage to at least 1 Satellite facility.
Achieves and maintains departmental quality and productivity expectations.

Qualifications
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 6 months of relevant experience
Preferred Registered Health Information Administration or Technician (RHIA or RHIT)
Microsoft Office applications
Electronic Health Records (EHR) system
Computer proficiency
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Basic computer knowledge
Ability to speak, read, write and to follow written and oral instructions.
Must possess a high accuracy rate and organizational skills, as well as computer skills. Proficient in typing and spelling.
