Job Summary
:
The analytical engineer will lead the testing and characterization of new products and materials under research and development. Most materials and products will be new. The analytical engineer will be responsible for the complete testing process from material handling to data generation interpretation. The engineer is expected to develop the injection molding process for new products, perform the testing, document report any observations that can assist scientists and tabulate report the data. From time-to-time, the engineer may be required to develop new test methods and train others on best molding or testing practices. This position is responsible for complying with the Company's Environmental and Quality Policies. This position is also responsible for reporting to management deviations from the policy when they are observed.
Essential Functions:
• Operation of polymer processing testing equipment including, but not limited to: injection molding machine, physical properties testing (Tensile, Flexural, Impact), Durometer Hardness, UL Flammability, Glow Wire Testing, Adhesion, Melt Viscosity, Ash %, Melt Flow Rate, Melt Volume Rate, Volatile, Visual Color, etc.
• Knowledgeable of ASTM ISO testing standards and specimen preparation methods.
• Comfortable with troubleshooting, calibrating and performing preventative maintenance on above equipment.
• Skilled at designing executing experiments, maintaining detailed lab notes records, and providing reports with data interpretation to requestors.
• Comfortable with identifying lab needs, commissioning new equipment and developing the SOPs and work-instructions for equipment.
• Ensure high levels of housekeeping, 5S and safe work practices in the lab in accordance with Avient standards.
• Skilled at using Word, Excel and Power Point. Knowledge of statistical analysis tools such as Minitab will be an advantage.
• Independently driven, but skilled at working as part of a team.
• Strong English communication skills.
• Creative and demonstrates mechanical aptitude with an inherent interest in exploring new ideas and technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
• Diploma in Polymer Science/Engineer (CIPET) or related field with 3-5 years of experience
Additional Qualifications:
·Use of statistical software (StatEase, Minitab, SigmaPro or similar) for executing DOEs
·Strong competencies in using Microsoft Word for documentation and report writing
·Strong competencies in use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Project for research needs
·Knowledge of Six Sigma DMAIC or other similar processes highly desirable

• Excellent presentation and technical communication (written oral) skills.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills required to develop detailed project timelines with key milestones and deliverables.
• The candidate must be collaborative and work effectively across cross-functional teams to drive projects from lab-to-commercial scale.
