Mō te tūranga | About the position

As the Principal Research Services Librarian, you will join the HB Williams Memorial Library leadership group and provide operational support to your team and ensure access to content of local and other taonga. Your expertise will drive public programmes, projects, and innovative methods that enhance customer experiences.

You will recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work.

Ngā Mahi ngā Takohanga Matua rānei | Duties include:

Lead, curate and create relevant exhibitions utilising library and other materials related to library and local histories, people or other subjects of interest to community.
Ensure technical support, statistical analytics, and promote in-house local history databases. You will ensure archival maintenance, preservation and security of Research Services collections, including special collections is upheld to a high standard.
Manage the development of staff and team performance, carrying out performance reviews, encouraging employee development and actioning performance issues.
To ensure a culture of excellent internal and external customer service and customer satisfaction.

Ngā Pūkenga me Ngā Wheako e Hiahia ana | Skills and experience required:

NZ Diploma in Library and Information Studies (L6) or equivalent.
Well-developed interpersonal and people management skills relatable to individuals, special interest groups and iwi.
Excellent problem solving, communication, and time management skills.
Experience of operation of research, libraries, and/or heritage document management is preferred.
