About the positions available
We currently have CEO opportunities available within the following directorates within the Teaching, Learning and Student Wellbeing division – closing Sunday 10 August 2025 at 11.59pm.

Teaching Learning and Student Wellbeing division: delivers programs and professional learning to enhance teaching practices, strengthen educational and instructional leadership, provide evidence-based curriculum resources, improve student literacy and numeracy, and implement whole-school wellbeing approaches. It also focuses on equitable access to services and ensuring inclusive and safe schools.

Curriculum directorate: leads coordination of special programs and leading the department’s response to the NSW Curriculum Reform supporting curriculum implementation across P-12.

For current NSW public school-based employees or employees who hold right of return to a NSW public school, please confirm in the pre-screening questions that you have discussed this opportunity with your direct supervisor/principal and that they are willing to release you for the required period.

Permanent officers temporarily appointed to Chief Education Officer positions will maintain Right of Return for a period not exceeding twelve months as described in Chief Education Officers – Department of Education) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017.


If you currently hold a temporary NSBTS role, please refer to Advice for current NSBTS considering applying for other positions during their temporary NSBTS appointment.

Existing internal employees are encouraged to refer to the vacation guide for teachers taking up a temporary Non-School Based Teaching Service position.
