Position Summary

The People Consultant – functions in a generalist capacity and is responsible for coordinating the administration of Human Resources services for an assigned client group. As an innovative and collaborative Human Resources professional, you will play a key role in supporting a diverse client portfolio in a complex and stimulating environment that includes both unionized and non-union employees. You will design and implement Human Resources strategies and programs involving labour relations, performance/change management, organizational effectiveness and resource planning. This role will support the Corporate Portfolio consisting of Altum Health Divisions 1, 2,3, Connect Care, UHN@home, Partner Organizations.

Working with a team of Human Resource professionals, you will provide analysis, advice and implementation support. The Human Resources Professional identifies leading practice human resource opportunities, resolves human resource issues, facilitates HR initiatives and ensures consistent administration of the policies and procedures as they apply to their client portfolio. Your demonstrated ability to deliver results on time, determine the root cause of issues and generate creative solutions in line with organizational needs will be critical to your success.

Duties
• Provides guidance, advisory and consultative services to assigned client groups and fosters relationships with client groups.
• Works to navigate and resolve labour and employee relations issues arising from administration, interpretation, and communication of multiple collective agreements, relevant legislation, corporate policies, and People Culture policies, procedures and practices.
• Collaborates with Centers of Excellence across People Culture to ensure the needs of client groups are met by acting as the central point of contact for all parties.
• Creates partnerships across People Culture to deliver value added services to leaders in their client group that reflects strategic objectives behind the people strategy.
• Participates in, and supports People Culture projects and ongoing activities, identifies leading practice People Culture opportunities, and facilitates People Culture initiatives.
• Performs cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Human Resources, with post-secondary study in Human Resources.
• 3 to 5 years of demonstrated human resources and labour relations experience in a similar role in unionized environment.
• Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a track record of providing superior customer service.
• Superior time management and organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Solid knowledge of organizational behaviour principles and Human Resource strategies.
• Knowledge of grievance resolution and arbitration processes and requirements.
• Knowledge of the Labour Relations Act, Hospital Industrial Labour Disputes Act, Employment Standards Act, Worker’s Compensation Act, human rights and other relevant legislation.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Advanced expertise utilizing Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience in a health care facility is a definite asset.
