Main Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Teacher’s performance will be considered to be synonymous with Kawenni:io/ Gaweni:yo School policies and procedures. The Teacher will deliver English lessons based on the ESL guidelines to grades 7/8 and Secondary students. The Teacher will be responsible to prepare and administer grade tests, lesson units and projects. The Teacher will be able to assess student English literacy and fluency and implement strategies to improve English literacy and fluency in a plan of action. Teacher will provide adequate resources to support student literacy. Knowledge of assessment tools and test to benchmark student success.

Qualifications/Education

• A Bachelor of Education or equivalent and be a member of the College of Teachers.

• Knowledge of the Rotinonhision:ni/Hodinohson:ni culture and/or language is an asset.

• Current ESL Ontario Accredited Certification an asset.

Function

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Teacher’s performance will be considered to be synonymous with the school policies and procedures.

Main duties

Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.

Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs, and interests, and include cultural curriculum adaptations.

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.

Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods

such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.

Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.

Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.

Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.

Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.

Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by School policies

Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.

Prepare and maintain a daybook with assigned class schedules and lesson plans.

Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.

Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.

Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.

Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.

Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and. volunteers.

Involve parent volunteers and older students in children's activities, in order to facilitate involvement in focused, complex play.

Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.

Delivers the register, the school key, day book and other school property in his/her possession, including resources purchased with education funds, to the education office on demand, or when his/her agreement with the LEA has expired, or when for any reason his/her employment has ceased.

Demonstrate interpersonal skills through respect, sharing and caring

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to demonstrate working knowledge in operating a computer system withspreadsheet, word processing, database applications and Windows operations
