About the Role
This is a Permanent Part Time position at 32 hours per fortnight within the VFPMS.
Based at Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton, the VFPMS Nurse Coordinator provides clinical services at MCH. The role will be performed in collaboration with the VFPMS Nurse Manager at the RCH in order to ensure efficient and effective utilisation of expertise and resources across both sites.
The VFPMS Nurse Coordinator is the in-hours first point of contact for enquiries related to requests for a forensic paediatric medical service and will be responsible for triaging of children and young people who present with problems that might indicate abuse, assault or neglect in accordance with current VFPMS guidelines.

Classification for this position will range from ZF4 to ZJ4
What you’ll achieve:
Acting as the in-hours first point of contact for enquiries relating to requests for a forensic paediatric medical service. This involves triaging of children and young people who present with problems that might indicate abuse, assault or neglect in accordance with current VFPMS guidelines.
Utilising clinical skills, and knowledge to coordinate patient care across sites and to initiate alternative approaches to care.
Communicating diagnostic data to treating medical doctor, escalating abnormal patient findings/diagnostic data.
Supporting and encouraging an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care.

Your skills and experience

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Profession al practice Portfolio.
Minimum 5 years Paediatric nursing experience.

The Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service (VFPMS) operates as a Centre of Excellence for Child Abuse and Forensic Paediatric Medicine. This means that the service
operates as a tertiary hospital referral centre,
provides 24/7 advice and secondary consultations for Victorian Health professionals, Police and Child Protection Practitioners,
has a leadership role in establishing standards, protocols and guidelines in relation to forensic paediatric medicine in Victoria,
serves as a central point for data collection and funding of fee-for-service consultations and
is a leading Victorian centre for teaching and research in the medical aspects of child maltreatment.
