Job Description

• *STOKES LAW LLP - Calgary Civil Law Associate

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Civil Lawyer who has litigation and ADR experience to join our legal team. Preferably three (3) years or more post-call experience.
• Note - we are moving to a 4 day work week model - Monday to Thursday.

You may work remotely whenever you wish.

This is a full-time, hybrid Civil Lawyer role based in Calgary, AB, with flexibility for some work from home.

The Civil Lawyer will manage a varied caseload of civil matters, including client intake, legal research, drafting pleadings, affidavits, and other court documents, and preparing correspondence and legal opinions.

Duties

The role involves representing clients in negotiations, mediations, and court hearings, as well as developing case strategies in collaboration with colleagues and support staff. The Civil Lawyer will maintain regular communication with clients, ensure accurate and timely file management, and uphold high standards of professionalism and ethics.
• Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on a wide array of civil matters.
• Conduct legal research to support case preparation.
• Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and agreements.
• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, and negotiations.
• Collaborate with other lawyers and external professionals to develop effective legal strategies.
• Stay updated on changes in family law legislation and case precedents.
• Work collaboratively with a team.

Skills
To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills:
• Strong writing skills to draft clear and concise legal documents.
• Excellent negotiation skills to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
• Knowledge of legal drafting techniques to prepare accurate and effective legal documents.
• Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide sound advice to clients.
