Purpose

Expanse School is seeking to recruit a qualified teacher to work across both Key Stages 3 and 4 in the delivery of Mathematics including Functional Skills and GCSE. The job would ideally suit a practitioner with experience of working with SEND students. Knowledge of developing numeracy interventions would be an advantage.

Main Responsibilities

1. Specialist Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver inspirational, specialised, and highly differentiated lessons for KS3 4 SEND classes.
Utilise assessment effectively to support academic progress and emotional development, incorporating Boxall Profiles.
Create a stimulating and well-structured learning environment suitable for pupils with special educational needs.
2. Advocacy and Collaboration:

Take responsibility as a form teacher and champion the needs of pupils across the wider school.
Support a bespoke curriculum offer meeting academic, special, and personal development needs of KS3 4 pupils.
3. School Development and Professional Development:

Actively contribute to whole-school development and improvement.
Engage proactively in the schools performance development, review, and supervision processes.
Participate in continuing personal professional development.
4. Behaviour Management and Support:

Support the consistent approach to behaviour management, teaching and learning, marking, assessment, etc., following relevant school policies.
Monitor attendance and punctuality, reporting absences and lateness promptly.
Coordinate support staff, including HLTAs, TAs, and specialists from external agencies, to promote pupil progress.
5. Administrative and Support Responsibilities:

Create and maintain a conducive learning environment within school and classrooms.
Manage a delegated budget for learning resources and equipment for effective operation of delegated curriculum areas.
Build effective relationships with parents and carers through open events and supporting pupils and their families in making the most of educational opportunities.
Liaise with and signpost to other agencies when necessary (e.g., social care, NHS, CAMHS, EPs).
6. General Responsibilities:

Contribute to the accurate use and maintenance of up-to-date recording systems.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of strategies, processes, and developments within SEND.
Carry out other duties appropriate to the level expected of a teacher.
Take reasonable care of health and safety, cooperating with the leadership and management of the school under relevant legislation.
Promote and actively support the schools responsibilities towards safeguarding.
Your Qualifications / Skills Knowledge

Evidence of ongoing commitment to continuous professional development
Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders including external agencies
Outstanding organisational and time-management skills including ability to meet deadlines
Ability to create links with colleagues and students
Ability to develop resources in response to student needs
Recent experience of Ofsted Inspection is desirable
QTS/QTLS certification is desirable
Recognised SEN specialist qualification is desirable
Experience of working with a range of special educational needs is desirable
Essential Requirements

PGCE qualification or equivalent with minimum GCSE Maths and English grade 5
Knowledge and understanding of teaching to current Education Inspection Framework
Knowledge of working with external organisations, especially, for example, OFSTED, QAA and Awarding Bodies
Knowledge and understanding of good teaching and learning practices
Knowledge of using technology e-portfolio systems as part of teaching practice
Awareness of current issues affecting the SEN / SEMH and Education
Ability to lead a small classroom team
Ability to lead management of student attendance
