Overview:
Maintains established standards of care, policies, objective, and goals in administering professional nursing care to all patients needing Emergency Services.
Responsibilities:
Assesses patients, implements department protocols and provides appropriate nursing interventions and on-going assessment. Implements life support procedures in emergency situation.
Actively facilitates patient flow in the department.
Promotes cost consciousness by directing patients to D/C area for collections and using supplies wisely.
Treats all patients, families, co-workers and physicians in a customer friendly manner, actively giving information to patient and family, providing comfort measures, maintaining clean work environment and calling patients for follow up as assigned.
Maintains accurate records, legibly documents and reports patient care and charges, time of triage, time placed on bed, and time discharged from Emergency Services.
Documents and discharges patients giving appropriate teaching information and referrals.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency nursing procedures and equipment, medication administered in the department, nursing trends, practices and legal aspects of emergency nursing.
Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certifications
Current Alabama RN license or a current RN multi-state license

Experience
Prior critical care or emergency room experience preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities
Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must have knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Emergency Care Center Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual. BCLS, ACLS, PALS and department specific competencies must be maintained. TNCC is preferred. BLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment. ACLS, and PALS must be obtained within the first year of employment.
