Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced English Teacher to deliver one-to-one lessons to students with diverse needs, including those with SEND. In this role, you will have the opportunity to teach and support students who are unable to attend mainstream schooling, helping them engage with English Studies through tailored and accessible lessons. Lessons may take place in students' homes, libraries, or other agreed-upon locations.
This role is based in Derby, and will be a September 2025 start. This role also requires a driving license and access to a car.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver individualised English lessons that are aligned with the student's academic level and learning objectives.
Teach a range of topics at GCSE or equivalent levels.
Ability to promote subject understanding, engagement and motivation in students.
Remain patient and flexible in the approach to learning by adapting lesson content and teaching methods to support students with SEND and other learning challenges.
Track and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and staff.
Possess excellent communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively with pastoral teams to ensure holistic support for each student.
Maintain thorough records of lessons and progress in line with educational requirements.
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or significant experience teaching English.
Experience in some of the following areas is essential: English Functional Skills Entry Level up to Level 2 | OCR or AQA GCSE English Language and Literature.
Experience working with SEND students is highly desirable.
Excellent knowledge of the English Language and Literature curriculum and related topics.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students in a one-to-one setting.
Flexibility to work in various locations, including students’ homes or other designated learning environments.
A valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
