Job Summary
Pediatric nurses in ICU play a vital role in providing specialized care to critically ill children. Their primary responsibilities include treating and educating patients, establishing personalized care plans, and observing patients regularly to consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
• Administer medication and manage intravenous fluids according to patient needs
• Deliver immunizations, perform physical assessments, order medications, and conduct therapeutic treatments
• Care for acutely, chronically, and critically ill children, interpreting lab and diagnostic test results
• Monitor patients, collect medical samples, and maintain accurate records of their progress
• Notify doctors and healthcare professionals of any changes in patient condition or symptoms
Additional Requirements
Pediatric nurses may be required to assist physicians by obtaining medical histories from patients and their parents in small private offices.
Education and Certifications
BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS/NALS certifications are mandatory for this role.
Other Responsibilities
Complete additional tasks as assigned or required on a time basis.
