Cancer and Blood Research Trials Unit, Waikato Hospital
Permanent Full time – 40 hours per week
The role of a Nurse Coordinator within the Cancer and Blood Research Trials Unit is an exciting opportunity to be part of a specialist team of dedicated clinical research personnel

About the Role

This role involves ensuring that the trials in your portfolio are conducted according to Good Clinical Practice. Patients will be enrolled, receive treatment and be followed-up according to the trial protocol. Data will be collected and entered to a high standard, including the reporting of adverse events. Adverse events will be managed to ensure patient safety is maintained at all times.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Set up new clinical trials in collaboration with the start-up team, to ensure a high standard of patient care and data collection.
Manage a portfolio of trials and patients, ensuring that patient visits are performed in accordance with the protocol.
Liaise with Clinical Research Organisations, external vendors such as imaging facilities, trial Investigators, the multidisciplinary team and others.
Provide education to patients, whanau and the multidisciplinary team to manage safe and effective patient care.
Maintain on-going training and professional development.

The Cancer and Blood Research Trials Unit manages a varied portfolio of sponsored, collaborative and investigator-lead Phase 1b-3 clinical trials across Medical Oncology, Haematology, Radiation Oncology and Palliative Care. We connect with a broad network of research groups across Waikato Hospital, Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora and beyond. We have well developed professional relationships and affiliations with many pharmaceutical companies, clinical research organisations, collaborative groups and stakeholders. We foster professional development and innovation to continually build on and improve our service.


About you

Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:

A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, with a minimum of 3 years post graduate nursing experience
Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure
Completed or undertaking post graduate study
Medical Oncology, Haematology and clinical research experience (preferred)
Proficiency in using Microsoft and other computer applications
Experience in cancer care and clinical research would be an advantage; however, a full orientation, training and learning package will be provided to the right candidate.
You will work independently and as part of a team to manage a portfolio of clinical trials. This will involve some direct patient care; attending clinic visits and administering investigational agents, along with administrative and regulatory responsibilities.
