About the Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified Medical Imaging Technologist (MIT) with Class Radionuclide Imaging registration to join our innovative and supportive Nuclear Medicine Department.

Based in one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary hospitals, this role offers the chance to deliver high-quality diagnostic examinations using state-of-the-art equipment, including solid-state and hybrid NM-CT scanners, within a dynamic and progressive clinical environment.


Key responsibilities:

Perform a wide variety of functional imaging studies across multiple specialties
Undertake clinical scanning using advanced solid-state and hybrid imaging systems
Prepare radiopharmaceuticals in a controlled laboratory environment
Process and analyse images to support accurate diagnostic outcomes
Manage a diverse and engaging caseload, offering continual learning opportunities
Play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic care
Collaborate closely with a small, highly skilled, and supportive team of professionals

About the Team/ Service

Our Nuclear Medicine department is a dynamic and close-knit team, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including two solid-state scanners (one being a dedicated cardiac scanner) and a conventional hybrid NM-CT scanner. We offer a broad spectrum of functional imaging studies, providing critical insights that guide patient care.

As a small, highly skilled team, we work collaboratively to deliver diagnostics and patient care. This structure allows each team member to have a direct and meaningful impact on our service. Every contribution is valued, and there is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our department and enhance the quality of care we provide.


About Hamilton

Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. With around 722 inpatient beds, 22 operating theatres, and a dedicated outpatient clinic and procedure centre, Waikato Hospital provides comprehensive hospital services, including radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:

A strong patient focus
Full registration with the NZ Medical Radiation Technologist Board with Class Radionuclide Imaging scope of practice
Experience in general Nuclear Medicine procedures
Have excellent communication skills
Utilise excellent time management and organisational skills
Have the ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
Sound knowledge in IT systems and applications
