Steeped in history, athletes in the famous black singlet have created many of New Zealand’s most unforgettable sporting moments. About the Role

This is a career-defining opportunity to lead the marketing function for one of New Zealand’s most storied sports. Reporting to the Head of Commercial and Brand, you will develop and execute a world-class marketing strategy that enhances brand equity, drives engagement, and strengthens athletics' position as a premier sport in New Zealand.



Your Impact:

Shape Brand Strategy – Champion and protect the Athletics NZ brand, including the Black Singlet and all affiliated event brands.
Drive Participation Growth – Expand our reach by developing innovative, multi-channel marketing campaigns that drive growth of our sport.
Enhance Event Marketing – Oversee the promotion of national championships, mass participation events, and key initiatives.
Lead Digital Innovation – Enhance engagement through cutting-edge digital marketing, CRM strategies, and data-driven decision-making.
Strengthen Stakeholder Relationships – Collaborate with sponsors, funding partners, agencies, and media to maximise exposure.
Optimise Communications – Ensure consistent messaging across all marketing, PR, and stakeholder engagement channels.


About You

We’re looking for a dynamic, strategic, and innovative marketing leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Marketing Expertise – A tertiary qualification in marketing, business, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing leadership roles.
Brand & Content Mastery – Proven ability to create and execute world-class multi-channel marketing campaigns.
Digital First Mindset – Strong understanding of digital marketing trends, including SEO, SEM, paid social, and CRM optimisation.
Sports & Events Experience – Background in sports marketing, events, or commercial partnerships is highly desirable.
Exceptional Communication Skills – Ability to craft compelling messaging and work effectively with partners
Data-Driven Decision Making – Experience using analytics to measure campaign success and inform strategy.
Bonus Skills:

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools.
Familiarity with New Zealand’s sports landscape and commercial sponsorship
