What Will You Do? | Ka aha koe?
Key responsibilities will include:


Deliver exceptional customer service and assist library users with a wide range of enquiries.
Support customers to access library collections, digital resources, technology, and online services.
Carry out circulation activities including issuing, returning, shelving, and maintaining library materials.
Assist with collection management, resource processing, and maintaining accurate library records.
Help plan, promote, and deliver library programmes, events, workshops, and community engagement activities.
Provide assistance with computers, devices, printing, scanning, Wi-Fi, and other digital technologies.
Maintain a welcoming, safe, organised, and attractive library environment.
Process customer transactions, memberships, and administrative tasks accurately.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across library services and the wider Council.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and uphold Council values, policies, and professional standards.

We are looking for someone with:


Essential:

A passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating positive experiences for library visitors.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Good computer and digital literacy, with confidence using a range of technology and online systems.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
High attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks and maintaining records.
A positive, adaptable, and professional approach to work.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and professional standards.
Reliability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.
Desirable:

Previous experience in a library, customer service, retail, hospitality, education, or other public-facing environment.
Experience supporting customers with technology, digital devices, or online services.
Knowledge of public library services, collections, programmes, and resources.
Experience using a Library Management System or similar database-driven software.
Experience assisting with community programmes, events, workshops, or outreach activities.
Understanding of the role libraries play in supporting literacy, learning, community connection, and wellbeing.
A relevant qualification or study in library and information services, customer service, education, or a related field.
