Position Overview
This is a part-time English Language Teacher (EFL Teacher) and Examiner role, and you will be based at either or both of the following campuses:
Eastgate House Campus – 40 Dukes Place, London, EC3A 7LP.
Wentworth House Campus - 350 Eastern Avenue, Gants Hill, London IG2 6NW.
And any additional campuses in London.

£18 - £25 per hour depending on experience

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional English Language Teacher and Examiner to conduct and assess speaking and written language examinations. The role requires a strong understanding of assessment methodologies, including familiarity with the IELTS marking scheme. The examiner will ensure all candidates are assessed fairly and in accordance with established guidelines while maintaining the integrity of the examination process. As a teacher, you will be responsible for the planning and teaching of College classes, and for related administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Standards: Overall
• To participate fully in the academic and social life of the College.

• To be familiar with current health safety practices, and act on them.
• To have the care and welfare of students as your primary concern.
• To have a good understanding of emergency and evacuation procedures.
• To behave in a courteous and professional manner with colleagues and clients at all times and to respect any such relevant service standards.
• To adhere to company dress and behaviour codes.
• To inform the Academic Management Team of lateness or absence.
• To submit a list of projected holidays for the upcoming academic year at least 2 weeks in advance.
Standards: Academic
• To arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your lesson.
• To teach the contracted hours, though this amount may be extended with mutual agreement of the contractor and supervisor. The maximum number of hours per teaching week shall not exceed 40.
• To plan lessons in advance, keeping with the College ethos of student-centeredness and learner development.
• To deliver classes that meet the needs of the learners and are in line with guidelines issued prior to the start of course delivery.
• To keep accurate records of planning and work done.
• To keep daily attendance registers and follow lateness procedures.
• To be observed by peers and the Academic Team regularly as part of the ongoing professional development programme.
• To assist in the testing and placement of students.
• To cover other teachers’ classes if needed.
• To assist all teachers in the care and maintenance of teaching materials and the neat and tidy appearance of classrooms, staff room and common areas.
• To attend staff meetings and bimonthly in-service development sessions.
• To keep accurate assessment records and update students regularly about their progress; to carry out any other associated administrative tasks as per your contract. Administrative duties may include but are not limited to:
• Course design
• Keep registers and attendance records up to date
• Teaching development (internal bi-monthly plus 2 external CPD sessions)
• Teachers’ meetings (weekly)
• Updating the Student Progress weekly
• Placement testing for the students
• Completing all administrative work for examinations
Other Contractual Responsibilities
• To assist current and prospective students with enquiries and requests, and to know where to direct those in need of assistance.
• To highlight to senior management areas of concern, e.g. health safety matters, issues of student welfare, poor or troublesome student behaviour, and to assist senior management in resolving these areas of concern
• To be proactive in the care and welfare of students and where necessary, in support of other members of staff.
Other Related Tasks/Information
• As part of the contract, you will be required to attend a training and induction before you start teaching. The induction will cover site familiarity, health safety, emergency and evacuation, emergency procedures, academic induction and training on examination procedures.
The teaching staff are managed by the Academic Team. The Academic Team will ensure that service standards are delivered according to the service standards contained herein.
Speaking Test Assessment:
• Conduct one-on-one speaking examinations with candidates, ensuring a professional and impartial approach.
• Follow structured examination guidelines and adhere to standardised questioning formats.
• Assess candidates’ spoken English using the provided marking scheme.
• Provide accurate and objective scoring based on fluency, pronunciation, lexical resource, grammatical range, and coherence.
• Transcribe speaking test responses and submit them to the relevant personnel.
Written Test Assessment:
• Evaluate candidates’ written responses according to the prescribed marking scheme.
• Provide accurate and consistent scoring through the examination portal.
• Ensure timely submission of marked scripts and assessment records.
Exam Invigilation Administrative Tasks:
• Verify candidate identification before each section of the test and complete the required documentation.
• Supervise candidates during computer-based exams to ensure compliance with examination regulations.
• Maintain the integrity of the exam process by following strict procedural guidelines.
• Report any irregularities or breaches of examination rules to the appropriate authority.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications Experience:
• Expertise in English language assessment, with a strong understanding of IELTS or equivalent testing frameworks.
• DELTA qualification is required.
• Formal training in language assessment.
• A degree in English, Linguistics, TESOL, CELTA or a related field (preferred).
• Previous experience as an examiner, assessor, or English language teacher is highly desirable.
• Excellent command of written and spoken Academic English (C2 Level).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work to strict assessment deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while following standard procedures and protocols.
