In order to ensure your application is received by NAIT for thorough review and consideration, please apply directly through our Careers site at www.nait.ca/careers

NOTE: This position is focused on student recruitment for NAIT programs and is sales-focused. It is not a Human Resources or staffing position and does not involve employee hiring or staffing responsibilities. Candidates seeking roles within Human Resources or related hiring positions will not be considered for this posting.

Are you a high-energy people person with a passion for changing lives through post-secondary education? Do you set ambitious goals for yourself and thrive on a challenge? Do you enjoy travelling and having a varied workday? Are you creative, able to pitch new ideas and initiatives and then do the hard work to get buy-in and implement them? Do the NAIT vision and values (nait.ca/nait/about/our-vision) resonate with you? If so, we may have your dream job!

We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals with a passion for helping people achieve their goals through higher education. Domestic Recruitment Specialists work with prospective students, applicants, parents, high school counsellors, other members of the Registrar’s Office, the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre, academic staff in all NAIT Schools and programs, other NAIT departments (e.g., Conference and Event Services), and more. This role is varied, fast-paced, and people-focused. The ability to connect with others and build relationships is paramount.

Domestic Recruitment Specialists promote NAIT degree, diploma, and certificate programs to domestic stakeholders through a variety of channels. Domestic students are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and refugees; please note the Domestic team does not conduct any recruitment activities for international students. Our stakeholders include prospective students, applicants, parents and guardians, as well as staff at Canadian high schools and community organizations. We work with a diverse audience of high school students, newcomers to Canada, mature students, and transfer students, and each group has unique perspectives, challenges, and interests.

The Domestic Recruitment Specialist is accountable for meeting domestic student recruitment targets, growing existing markets, and exploring opportunities in new markets. They support NAIT’s Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) plan and work hard to ensure the institution achieves domestic enrolment objectives. Domestic Recruitment Specialists work closely as a team to support each other and ensure the team’s goals are met, while having significant autonomy to manage their own work and implement strategies for their assigned region(s) and School(s). The successful candidate will be conscientious and have proven success when working both independently and within a team. They will consistently demonstrate good judgment, accountability, self-sufficiency, and will value continuous improvement.

Applicants should understand the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and be able to articulate their importance for the post-secondary sector broadly and domestic recruitment specifically. Experience with EDI initiatives is an asset. NAIT has a diverse student body, and the Domestic Recruitment team strives to ensure all prospective students feel welcome and supported.

The successful candidate must be able to accommodate a variable and flexible schedule. Weekdays, weekends, evenings, and extensive travel will all be required at different times throughout the year. Although some weeks will follow standard weekday office hours, many others will involve weekend or evening events, and some weeks will be spent entirely “on the road”. This can include consecutive days spent travelling within Edmonton and area, long distance trips throughout Alberta, or trips to other provinces and territories (currently British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and The Northwest Territories). Driving is frequently required; safe driving skills and the ability to rent a vehicle are necessary for the position. Air travel may also be required when travelling to other provinces.

In addition to a resume, all candidates must provide a cover letter that clearly explains why they are interested in the position. Applications without this information will not be considered. Finding a candidate who is the right fit for the role is more important than finding someone with a specific background; as such, candidates should demonstrate their passion for working with people, belief in the value of post-secondary education, enthusiasm for promoting and growing NAIT, and their willingness to spend long days travelling, organizing events, working hard to hit ambitious targets, being innovative and embracing change, and continually learning and growing their skill sets.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop an evidence-based annual recruitment plan for assigned region(s) and NAIT academic School(s), in alignment with the SEM plan and strategic goals

Set targets collaboratively with the Manager of Domestic Recruitment and be accountable for meeting the agreed-upon targets

Represent NAIT at events such as career fairs and the Educational Liaison Association of Alberta (ELAA) recruitment circuit

Respond to a high volume of questions and inquiries from prospects, families, schools, and community organizations

Travel to schools in Alberta and neighbouring provinces to deliver presentations, cultivate relationships, and promote NAIT

Establish yearly travel plans and manage travel bookings

Maintain accurate and detailed records of events, leads, expenses, overtime, and promotional merchandise

Host campus visits and arrange hands-on learning activities for high school and junior high students

Book and lead campus tours

Work with Conference Event Services alongside the Manager of Domestic Recruitment to organize large recruitment events such as Open House and Program Previews

Assist in coordinating and training event volunteers, Casual staff, and new recruiters as needed

Complete administrative tasks as required (e.g., submit print requests, sort and organize signage and other materials in storage, arrange shipping and deliveries, collect completed orders from other campus services, count T-shirts and promotional merchandise)

Coordinate with partner departments such as Admissions, the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre, Prospect Application Relationship, and Marketing to create an exceptional prospect and applicant experience (e.g., outreach campaigns, applicant support, input on viewbooks and other collateral)

Build strong partnerships with Schools, engage academic staff in recruitment activities, and generate excitement for recruitment events

Maintain a detailed understanding of NAIT programs, services, administrative processes, and student life

Create and update Domestic Recruitment documentation and resources

Enter and maintain records in the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

Analyze lead and application data, interpret trends over time, and make data-informed decisions

Keep abreast of trends in SEM and post-secondary recruitment across Canada

Identify opportunities for growth and continuous improvement

Be willing to make ambitious recommendations, take informed risks, and spearhead new ways of doing things

Skills Abilities:

Exceptional interpersonal skills, intercultural skills, and strong public speaking skills
