The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 4 located at the Anchorage Central Office in Anchorage, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:
The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Develop and implement policies and procedures to address the unique healthcare needs of the inmate population, including mental health and substance abuse issues.
Coordinate healthcare services with other correctional departments, such as security, mental health, reentry, and education.
Supervision of staff in multiple areas to include nursing, medical records, medical supply, and other special projects.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team in a leadership role.
Work closely with other state and private organizations regarding a multitude of programs.

The work environment is collaborative and customer service oriented. This position works in a collaborative team environment and will interface daily with a variety of people including members of the public, field offices, other managers, directors, and the Commissioner's Office.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
AND
Three years of cumulative experience as a Registered Nurse, at least one of which must have involved directing and reviewing the work of lower-level professional nursing staff on a unit and/or shift. Examples of this latter experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Corrections Nurse 3, Psychiatric Nurse 3, or Nurse 3 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
Substitution:
Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

SPECIAL NOTICE
This position requires travel outside the Anchorage area. Travel often varies from 1 - 5 days.
RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES
Starting salary may be approved up to Step D - $5,308.00, if criteria are met.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

PREA NOTIFICATION
The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
FINGERPRINT NOTICE
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.
DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
