Summary of Job Duties:
The Associate Controller will assist in the preparation of all financial reports for the University, including the Annual Financial Report, Quarterly Reports to the System Office, and State's ACRF. The Associate Controller researches and resolves issues related to financial transactions and financial reporting for all departments and monitors asset and liability accounts to ensure balances are being maintained and reconciled. This position will provide excellent customer service to campus users, including support and training in using the appropriate FDM (Foundational Data Model/Chart of accounts) values and directly supervises 2-4 staff members. The position also supervises the property accounting manager that oversees the moveable asset life cycle (tagging, inventory, transfers, and final disposal).

In the absence of the Controller, the Associate Controller may assume a temporary role of duties in this position.

This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education, i.e. at least 27 credit hours in upper-level accounting courses
At least five (5) years of progressive experience in accounting, financial management, or a related field
At least one year or more experience using ad hoc reporting tools to create custom reports and intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or CPA eligible
Higher Education experience
At least one year or more in processing accounting and finance transactions in WorkDay

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, particularly as they relate to sound financial management in higher education
Skilled in interacting with a variety of people
Ability to analyze and reconcile complex financial information in a data rich multi-dimensional accounting environment
Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications
Ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment and be innovative and creative in the development of accounting procedures
Ability to participate in and lead a workgroup
Ability to organize, prioritize, track, and complete assigned tasks
Ability to stay current on changes in accounting for higher education
Demonstrable abilities in using Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
Ability to test and implement software changes
Ability to work diplomatically with faculty and administration to promote teamwork, productivity, and administrative excellence
