Wood Purchases Coordinator
Job Description
Join us and play a key role in securing, planning, and delivering private forest resources across Hawke's Bay. Working alongside the wider Forests team and reporting to the Wood Purchase Manager , you will be responsible for both the commercial procurement of forest resources and the operational oversight required to safely and efficiently manage those resources.
This diverse office and field-based role combine commercial forestry, harvest planning, contractor coordination, and operational leadership to deliver a safe, sustainable, and cost-effective wood supply while contributing to the long-term success of Pan Pac's wood supply business.
In this role, you will:
Assist in securing privately owned forest resources through the identification, negotiation, and purchase of forest blocks across Hawke's Bay.
Build and maintain strong relationships with forest owners, farmers, contractors, and key stakeholders.
Provide on-ground leadership and support to harvesting crews and contractors, fostering a strong safety culture and operational excellence.
In conjunction with the Pan Pac operational team, help Monitor harvest performance, wood flows, roading activities, and operational outcomes to support efficient forest-to-mill delivery.
Assist with harvest planning, Resource consents, scheduling, and forecasting to support long-term wood supply.
Manage the financial performance of forest purchases through budgeting, cost control, and value optimisation.
Work closely with Wood Resources, Harvesting, Engineering, and Logistics teams to achieve operational goals
Support the strategic development and growth of Pan Pac's procurement and forestry operations.
Champion safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible forestry practices.

About you
We are looking for a driven and adaptable forestry professional with experience in forestry operations, who is ready to make an impact, bringing:
2+ years’ industry experience
Experience with contracts, contractor management, and project delivery
A positive, adaptable approach in fast-paced environments
A sound understanding of NES-CF and other HSE Standards
Strong organisation, time management, and ability to meet deadlines
Clear communication skills and attention to detail
Sound judgement and practical problem-solving ability
A collaborative team mindset with strong relationship-building skills
Effective negotiation skills
A forestry qualification
