Job Description
Position: Volunteer Food Assistant at Next Steps
Support community well-being by volunteering at CFOC's Next Steps Food Bank in Ajax, Ontario. Help with food sorting and distribution in a respectful, person-centered environment.
The Next Steps Food Bank relies heavily on dedicated volunteers to manage food donations and support community members effectively. As a Food Bank Volunteer, you will engage in tasks such as sorting items, packing hampers, and assisting patrons during distribution hours. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy active, hands-on work while contributing to food security in Durham Region.
Key Responsibilities:
• Receive and safely unload food donations
• Check for expiry dates and organize food categories
• Pack food according to patron needs and sizes
• Interact respectfully with patrons during food distribution
• Keep work spaces clean and follow safety guidelines
Requirements:
• Regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 25 lbs
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Reliable; provide advance notice if unavailable
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for patrons
