Job Title: Summer Camp Instructor/Facilitator – Theatre School

Location: Southwood United Church – 106+0 Elbow Drive SW (Hall), possibility of some work-from-home and other offsite tasks.

Position Type: Summer Employment (8 weeks @ 30 hours/week/flexible)

Wage: $15/hour

Immigration Status: Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

Our summer theatre camp offers kids an exciting opportunity to dive into acting, improv, movement, and more – all the while having fun and making new friends! Each session will result in a performance for the parents to enjoy and the students to shine.

Job Summary:

We are looking for energetic, creative, and responsible individuals ages 16-30 to join our team as Summer Camp Instructors. This is an exciting and flexible role in which 3 of the weeks will be spent with kids; you’ll help lead theatre-based activities, support camp operations, and ensure all participants have a fun and safe experience. During the other 5 weeks you will be helping prepare for the camps based on your interests and skill-set. Some of the opportunities are as follows but are not limited to; writing scripts, grant writing, social media development, building sets, sewing/mending costumes, sourcing/building props, helping organize pop-up day programs, etc.

Specific Time Frame:

Prior to working with kids you will be required to complete the ECE course – Early Childhood Education – you will be paid for the hours required to complete this course.

For 5 flexible weeks (30hrs/wk) between June 16- August 2+ you will be assisting with preparation for the camps; these tasks will be assigned/allocated based on your interest and skill-set.

Camps: July 7-11, July 21-25, August 11-15 (**will be required to be available for the duration of those 3 weeks during either the 7/7:30-1/1:30 time ranges OR 12/12:30-5:30/6.***)

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in planning and leading daily theatre games, exercises and rehearsals

- Supervise campers during activities, breaks, and outings

- Support lead instructors with class setup, clean-up, and materials

- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all campers

- Help prepare for end-of-session showcases

- Maintain clear communication with staff, parents, and campers

Qualifications:

- A passion for theatre; on stage or behind the scenes

- Experience working with children or youth is an asset

- Enthusiastic, dependable, and a team player

- Willingness to learn and take initiative

- Available to work during the time frame

Eligibility:

This position is part of the Canada Summer Job Program and is open to applicants ages 16-30
