The Child Protection Teams are a dedicated group committed to supporting children and families by collaborating closely with Indigenous and other cultural communities. As a member of this team, you'll work alongside other professionals in the rural community, all focused on making a positive impact through respectful and culturally sensitive practices. The Role
As a Travelling Child Protection Worker, you will assess and respond to concerns of child abuse and neglect by interviewing families, developing safety plans, and determining if children need protection. Your work directly impacts the well-being of vulnerable children and youth, helping to strengthen families and promote healthy development. The Travelling Child Protection Worker offers a unique opportunity to work in Northern BC while living in your current community. You’ll travel and work for 10 days (Monday to Friday) from your assigned community office, followed by 10 days (Monday to Friday) working from home or your headquarters/office location.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

2. Expanded Credentials:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
Currently hold full delegation (C6) under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA)
Eligible for immediate full delegation (C6) under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
Two or more years job specific experience.
Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:

There are seven (7) regular full time positions available and these positions are on travel status. These positions can based out of the lower mainland locations listed above due to office space availability (Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, Chilliwack and Port Moody).
These positions will be providing services in Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Fort St James, Hazelton, Smithers, and Williams Lake and your home and/or headquarters will be located in the lower mainland locations listed above (Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, Chilliwack and Port Moody), or equally cost effective location.
These positions involve a schedule where you'll work ten (10) days (Monday to Friday) from the community offices in Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Fort St James, Hazelton, Smithers, and Williams Lake, followed by ten (10) days (Monday to Friday) working from home and/or your headquarter location (home location is defined as your usual place of residence) as per the Service Delivery Division’s Telework Policy. Travel to and from the community offices will occur within the scheduled work days.
These positions are not eligible for Isolation Allowance or Retention Incentive Programs.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
