About Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE)

The UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) supports UNSW’s efforts in making positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice and driving engagement activities that enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.

Why your role matters

We are currently seeking a Societal Impact Evaluation Lead to design and implement UNSW’s inaugural Societal Impact Framework (SIF). This framework will be central to understanding and elevating the university’s impact across research, education, engagement, and operations and governance. The role presents a unique opportunity for a highly skilled evaluator with expertise in both quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods, who is passionate about advancing social change through evidence-based insights.

In this role, you will bring together advanced analytical skills and strong qualitative research capabilities to develop a comprehensive picture of complex societal issues. You will uncover patterns and insights from diverse indicators that inform strategic decisions, policies, and practices. Your ability to translate these findings into clear and compelling narratives—through reports, dashboards and presentations—will be key to engaging stakeholders and demonstrating the university’s impact.

You will collaborate closely with senior leaders across all Faculties and Divisions and play a pivotal role in delivering and overseeing a framework that captures the incredible work being done by our academic and professional staff, students, and partners. This position requires a deep appreciation for the diversity of ways impact can be captured and understood, a talent for simplifying complexity, and a track record of delivering projects through iterative and collaborative approaches. Through your work, you will help highlight and grow UNSW’s contribution to society.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

Lead the strategic design and implementation of the Societal Impact Framework’s evaluation and reporting cycle, assessing methods and frameworks to recommend an effective university-wide impact approach.
Oversee project delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic goals through effective planning, resource management, risk mitigation, and timely resolution of issues, while maintaining strong data governance.
Present impact data and insights clearly and effectively to a range of internal and external stakeholders, translating findings into clear, actionable insights that resonate with stakeholders across technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders to evaluate the relevance and accuracy of existing data, as well as identify opportunities for collecting, collating, and evaluating new impact measures.
Develop and implement governance and assurance practices to ensure data quality, privacy, security, and interoperability, and foster continuous refinement of impact measurement processes.
About You:

Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience. Qualifications and experience in qualitative data analysis, social sciences, or statistics is desired.
Proven advanced project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and synthesise large amounts of data from diverse sources and identify underlying causes and assumptions.
Experience with a range of evaluation and data analysis methods relevant to both qualitative and quantitative data, and the ability to select the right approach for the context.
Proficiency in Python, SQL, or R is advantageous but not essential.
Experience working in the higher education sector or with complex organisations is preferable.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
High level of experience working with a range of systems and applications, including Microsoft BI Dashboards, Qualtrics, and other common data analysis tools.
Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
