As a highly skilled Shipbuilding Project Manager for Engineering Design, you will be responsible for overseeing the fundamental design and engineering aspects that shape the initial framework of shipbuilding projects. This role ensures that all basic designs comply with regulatory standards, functional specifications, and project timelines, creating a robust foundation for detailed engineering and construction.
The purpose of this position is to lead and guide the shipyard's basic design and engineering efforts, establishing clear technical frameworks for each shipbuilding project. This role focuses on developing initial designs that align with the project's functional requirements, performance criteria, and budgetary considerations.
This position requires an individual who possesses the necessary knowledge, skill, and experience to develop and oversee the creation of technical specification documents, material take-offs, and detailed engineering plans. The ideal candidate should be experienced in repair/new build/conversion of ships and offshore structures, with a specialty in piping, engineering, and systems domain.
The successful candidate will work closely with all engineering teams from technology development/concept development, estimating project timelines, and ensuring that assigned projects are completed on time while adhering to engineering standards and processes.
Key responsibilities include coordinating with interdisciplinary disciplines, clients, and vendors; participating in critical design changes and concept reviews; preparing lists of deliverables with man-hour estimation for performing project tasks; and reviewing feasibility checks for all kinds of piping modifications.
The selected candidate will also formulate objectives and set targets for section managers and engineers functioning under their charge, estimate and prepare plans for optimum utilization of resources, and provide technical guidance to production/quality control as required.
In addition, the successful candidate will assess project requirements during the FEED stage, prepare bills of materials/material take-offs to aid commercial teams in bidding new projects, and provide technical advice/guidance to in-house design teams and clients on matters relating to technical feasibility, Class rules, national or international standards, and flag requirements.
Responsibilities include design and engineering activities to develop ship preliminary designs, functional designs, detailed designs, and integrating the work of structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines in compliance with Class rules and other applicable industry standards.
This position requires a high degree of planning and process control for effective flow of drawings and documents, as well as interaction with consulting firms for design outsourcing activities.
Furthermore, the selected candidate will proactively advise higher management towards improving/set up infrastructure/design facilities and design-related software, ensure section management towards optimal utilization of men and machines, and maintain high morale of the workforce by holding daily meetings with senior managers/managers to keep projects on track.
