Discipline of Psychiatry Mental Health at UNSW

The UNSW discipline of Psychiatry Mental Health leads the delivery of psychiatry education within the medical program, as well as a broad program of research focused on understanding and improving mental health in our community.

Staff come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including the medical specialty of psychiatry, as well as psychology, nursing and other allied health fields, public health, neuroscience, and the social sciences.

Details of the role

The Research Assistant plays a key role in supporting clinical research projects in the area of mental health, investigating novel and emerging interventions in psychiatry for depression (e.g., ketamine, electroconvulsive therapy, psychedelic-assisted therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and transcranial direct current stimulation) and other mental health conditions.

The position will provide research support and coordination in various projects to senior staff in an integrated multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians. The position will assist in the development and application of knowledge in the field of mental health to a range of projects conducted by the Neurostimulation and Interventional Psychiatry Team within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health, including clinical trials/networks and neuroscience-focused projects.

Some key skills required:

A university degree with Honours in Psychology or other related disciplines; or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training or experience.
Assist in set-up and ongoing coordination of new and existing research projects (including but not limited to preparation of ethics submissions, external contracts, and study materials; project reports; meeting agendas/minutes).
Liaise with research collaborators, internal and external stakeholders regarding project implementation and administration (including but not limited to project initiation, monitoring, progress).
Undertake data collection, entry, monitoring, and management, ensuring data and records are checked for accuracy.
Assist with literature search/review and data analysis under the supervision of senior researchers.
Assist with delivery of study training and timely preparation of project-related documents (e.g., training/operations manuals, reports, manuscripts, presentations).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
Experience with REDCap (e.g., including instrument design, administration of surveys, report generation, setting up alerts/notifications, eConsent, data quality module) is desirable.
