The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Research Manager.

The Research Assistant will be primarily responsible for participant recruitment, screening and follow up, collection/management of genetic (saliva or blood) samples, data management and reporting, research ethics board protocol management, study amendments, as well as collaboration with other participating studies/sites.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Coordinate research participant recruitment and data collection
Responsible for preparing and maintaining participant study records and documentation, data entry and database maintenance, coordination of data transfer between sites, biological sample collection and management (e.g., storage, shipping), preparing data for presentations and peer-reviewed research papers, and other administrative duties as required
Support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable University of Calgary policies, as well as all regulatory and legislative requirements
Qualifications / Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology or a related field required
Relevant research experience and/or a graduate degree is considered an asset
Previous experience working with youth, young adults and/or families with mental health challenges and/or genetic data is a strong asset
Previous experience in recruiting, screening and consenting research participants is preferred
Candidates will also have literature review and knowledge synthesis skills
Proficiency with word processing, PowerPoint and Excel is required
The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and diverse stakeholders is essential
Demonstrated communications skills (both oral and written) are required as is the ability to explain complex issues in plain language
Excellent attention to detail, the ability to exercise initiative and good judgment, and be able to meet deadlines while working independently with minimal supervision
Ability to multi-task and produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work effectively in a variety of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds
