Position Description

Reports to: Senior Project Manager Clinical Reinvention

Overview

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is widely recognized as one of the world's leading children's hospitals - a pioneer in healthcare, research, education, and training. Building on our rich history and track record, as we look to the future, SickKids requires a significant investment in facilities, equipment and information technology to meet the changing needs of our patients and families, and to maintain the level of service for which we are globally recognized.

In 2015, SickKids launched Project Horizon, a long-term plan for the renewal of the SickKids campus and the foundation for an integrated and seamless paediatric healthcare system. Project Horizon is a multi-year phased redevelopment project to transform the delivery of paediatric care, meet growth needs and replace aging, outdated infrastructure. The goal of Project Horizon is to ensure that SickKids can continue to deliver top quality, specialized paediatric care, through investing in the facilities and technology required to achieve this important mandate.

In addition to the already completed Patient Support Centre (PSC), Project Horizon planning includes 1) the build of a new Ambulatory Care Tower (ACT) at a site less than 1km away from the existing University Avenue (UA) site, 2) the decanting and demolition of existing Black and Hill Wings through a series of Early Works renovations, 3) the build of a new Critical Care Tower (CCT), and 4) modernization of existing Atrium and Burton. Project Horizon will be delivered in sequential phases, given its size and complexity, starting with the development of the ACT and Early Works.

The construction of these facilities represents the physical changes expected; however, Project Horizon will have other impacts, including 1) reinvention of workplace and culture to support future practices, 2) clinical reinvention to improve, modernize and future proof care delivery with technology and AI as important enablers, and 3) increased patient and family-centered engagement and collaboration.

Position Description

The Project Manager Clinical Reinvention, reporting to the Senior Project Manager Clinical Reinvention, will play a key role in Project Horizon planning for the clinical and clinical support programs, as part of the Project Horizon Reinvention Team. The Project Manager Clinical Reinvention listens to the end users (e.g. hospital teams, patient and family advisors), partners with external consultants, identifies needs, risk and issues, and supports key planning activities. A curious individual with a clinical background, and with exceptional people skills, project management acumen, critical thinking and ability to navigate fast paced dynamic deliverables, will excel in this role.

Here's what you'll get to do (Key Responsibilities):

Collaborate with teams in all stages of the capital redevelopment process, including but not limited to clinical planning, design development, post-occupancy evaluation, compliance review, operational readiness, training and orientation, and transition planning.
Work with, and manage, advisors, consultants (functional programmers, architects, etc.), and hospital teams supporting the clinical engagement, planning and design.
Support the procurement of advisors and consultants as required to support the general advancement of the project.
Lead user group meetings with hospital teams, patient and family advisors, and consultants efficiently and effectively, ensuring that all are prepared to participate in order to meet required deliverables and deadlines.
Translate hospital team, patient and family and others' requirements into all stages of project panning including but not limited to clinical planning and design.
Ensure that all users and consultants have the necessary documentation to undertake the required work.
Follow appropriate document controls.
Review records and evaluate the outputs of users and consultants as related to clinical and clinical support programs planning for accuracy and completeness.
Work closely with other Project Horizon team members to ensure appropriate integration and coordination between the various disciplines and specialties on the Project that are required to contribute to specific deliverables.
Translate ideas and outputs into practical and easy to understand concepts, applications and recommendations for various stakeholders and levels of leadership.
Support change management and a culture of inclusive engagement.
Support simulation activities for space and process design, as well as for training and orientation.
Support a culture of innovation and the adoption of new ways of working.
Support the use of quality data to inform decisions.
Other duties may be required outside the role to support the objectives, tasks and deliverables of Project Horizon.
Here's what you'll need (Qualifications and Experience):

A bachelor's degree in the sciences, healthcare, nursing, or other allied health disciplines or an equivalent combination of academic and practical experience.
A minimum of 5 years as a Project Manager in a healthcare setting with extensive experience supporting increasingly complex planning, or management of clinical or clinical support programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of clinic care and operations (e.g. operational requirements of an ambulatory clinic), and hunger for self-directed learning to fill knowledge gaps.
Demonstrated ability for critical and strategic thinking.
Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proactive with an ability to anticipate needs.
Demonstrated effectiveness at leading and working with high performing teams.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-performance team environment with shifting priorities.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining alignment with broader team goals.
Experience contributing to cross-functional projects, ensuring both personal and team success.
Superior interpersonal, communications skills and ability to successfully build relationships, resolve conflict and drive towards consensus.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective and comprehensive reports and presentations for various audiences, including executives, administrators and clinicians.
PMP Certification or Foundation of Project Management Certification is an asset.
Experience participating in and/or managing user engagement during a hospital capital redevelopment project is an asset.
Knowledge of, and experience with, the Ministry of Health's capital planning process is an asset.
An understanding of alternate financing and procurement, and public-private partnership delivery models, and associated design development processes, is an asset.
Experience/exposure to process improvement and/or human centered design thinking and/or simulation for design is an asset.
