About the role
The Policy Officer role coordinates and undertakes policy development, providing analysis and advice to support agency and/or government policy initiatives and commitments.

The role sits within the Policy and Business Strategy (PBS) team in the School Infrastructure (SI) division. PBS provides strategic policy and project advice to support operational development and SI division strategic initiatives. PBS also works with other divisions across the Department of Education (DoE) to ensure work is coordinated and aligned with Our Plan for Public Education and other department objectives.

As an integral support for the successful delivery of policy development, team projects and business as usual activities, the Policy Officer role requires strategic policy expertise and knowledge to perform policy development activities such as research, analysis, supporting the preparation of briefings and submissions, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement, in alignment with set goals and objectives. PBS policy work is often undertaken in collaboration with key stakeholders from across not only School Infrastructure, but across all divisions of DoE, affording the opportunity to build highly valuable corporate knowledge, skills and relationships.

About you -

Expertise and experience in strategic policy development, implementation and review.
Strong written communication skills and experience in preparing briefings and documents in Plain-English.
Experience in coordinating and supporting key stakeholder engagement activities.
Understanding of NSW Cabinet practices, including review processes and confidentiality requirements.
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role
Relevant qualifications and/or experience, preferably gained through the completion of a business-related tertiary qualification and supplemented by practical experience in a diverse and complex operating environment.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
