People Operations Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a People Operations Manager based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to build and scale the operational foundation behind a growing healthcare organization.
You will own critical people processes that shape the employee experience, from onboarding and payroll operations to compliance and performance systems.
The position combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, giving you broad ownership over people infrastructure.
You will design efficient workflows, introduce automation, and leverage AI-powered tools to improve how People Operations functions.
Working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, you will help create systems that allow teams to focus on delivering meaningful impact.
This opportunity is ideal for a high-agency People Operations professional who enjoys building, optimizing, and solving complex challenges.

Accountabilities:

The People Operations Manager will own and develop the operational backbone of the employee lifecycle, ensuring accurate, scalable, and compliant people processes across a growing organization. This role requires a hands-on builder who can create systems from the ground up, manage recurring operations with precision, and continuously improve workflows through automation and technology.
• Own end-to-end payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy across deductions, adjustments, and payroll cycles.
• Serve as the HRIS owner, managing system configuration, workflow automation, data integrity, and integrations.
• Manage benefits administration processes in collaboration with external partners.
• Build and maintain compliance systems covering employment regulations, registrations, wage requirements, leave policies, documentation, and workforce requirements.
• Oversee employee documentation, work authorization processes, credential tracking, and compliance monitoring.
• Create and maintain policies, employee resources, and operational documentation using AI-assisted tools where appropriate.
• Design and improve onboarding experiences that enable new employees to become productive quickly through streamlined and automated workflows.
• Manage employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, transfers, offboarding, and documentation.
• Support employee relations processes, including investigations, documentation, performance improvement plans, and workplace matters.
• Develop performance management infrastructure, reporting systems, and workforce dashboards to support leadership decisions.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual People processes and implement AI-powered solutions to improve efficiency.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced People Operations professional with strong operational discipline, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for building scalable systems. You should have experience supporting growing organizations, managing complex employment operations, and using technology to improve HR processes.
• 4–6+ years of experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or a related function, including experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
• Hands-on experience managing employment infrastructure, including payroll operations, compliance processes, employee documentation, and workforce administration.
• Experience handling employee relations matters, including investigations, documentation, and sensitive conversations.
• Demonstrated ability to build operational systems, processes, and documentation from the ground up.
• Experience using AI tools to create workflows, automate processes, improve documentation, or enhance reporting.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in high-volume environments.
• Ability to work US Eastern business hours while being based in Canada.
• Strong understanding of HR technology, automation, and data-driven People Operations.
• Experience administering HRIS platforms, particularly Rippling, is preferred.
• Experience supporting frontline, healthcare, multi-site, or high-volume workforces is an advantage.
• Background working with payroll providers, EORs, PEOs, or HR service providers is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
Benefits:
• Competitive base compensation of CAD $95,000–$135,000.
• Full-time engagement through a Contractor of Record structure in Canada.
• Remote work opportunity for Canada-based professionals.
• Flexible work environment aligned with US Eastern business hours.
• Paid time off and holidays.
• Professional development and career growth opportunities.
• Opportunity to build impactful People Operations systems from the ground up.
• Supportive leadership team and collaborative workplace culture.
• Chance to contribute to a mission-driven organization improving access to compassionate healthcare services.
