Job Description

The Experiential Education Department is seeking applications for up to 3 positions of Peer Mentor/Student Assistant, who will work directly in supporting fellow UPEI students and on various departmental projects.

These positions will be part-time during the 2026/2027 academic year with the possibility of extensions. Successful candidates will receive training and be mentored by Career and Experiential Education professionals to ensure an exceptional experiential learning opportunity.

Position Details
The majority of work for these positions will take place at our office in Dalton Hall, but we sometimes send student assistants to other campus locations for events, promotion, and collaborations with others on campus, and we have a limited number of remote work hours available each semester. Most work will fall within regular office hours, but some evening and weekend availability may be required. Work is distributed across student assistants with consideration to student strengths, preferences, and availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary function of this role will be:

Mentoring students on employment-related skills, such as helping write resumes and cover letters, providing information to help support job search strategies, and helping develop interview skills
Answering inquiries, in-person and online, and directing students to the appropriate resources
Monitoring and responding to a role-based email account
Other projects will be assigned based on the skill set and area of study of the successful candidates. They could include:

Developing content for social media platforms on Canva, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
Promoting the services of the department to the campus community through organizing and delivering class visits and setting up information tables
Supporting departmental event planning and execution
Researching, writing & organizing career-related resources
QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
A customer-service orientation, a willingness to work one-to-one as a peer mentor and comfortable interacting with a diverse population
The ability to be self-directed and accountable to complete assigned work with good time management
Ability to work in both a team environment and independently
Strong attention to detail and driven by quality and creativity
Dependable and reliable
Well-developed interpersonal skills with an interest in working with and helping others
Working knowledge and experience of social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram would be an asset
Strong computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office, G Suite Applications, and Canva would be an asset
Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
