Are you passionate about fostering positive behaviour and creating a thriving learning environment for students? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) Schoolwide Practitioner in the Otago region.

PB4L initiatives help parents, whanau, teachers, early learning centres and schools to address behaviour, improve children's wellbeing, and increase educational achievement. By strengthening relationships and creating more positive home and school environments, we remove barriers to engagement and improve students' chances to achieve at school and beyond.

The Ministry of Education is committed to inclusive practice and all our PB4L initiatives aim to encourage pro-social behaviour that leads to improved learner engagement and achievement.

PB4L Schoolwide is a whole school approach to improving learner behaviour and achievement. Schoolwide Practitioners provide training and ongoing coaching to school leaders and schoolwide teams set up within the school. They work together to implement consistent and sustainable behaviour support systems that promote quality teaching and learning.

This is not a classroom teaching role, but you will be facilitating adult learning to create positive change in behaviours and school culture. You'll need to bring your cultural capabilities, facilitation skills, classroom behaviour management and specialist knowledge to be successful in the role.

This permanent, full-time role is based at our Dunedin office.

Salary range: $69,966-$118,450 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies:

a tertiary qualification in education, psychology or another appropriate discipline relevant to the focus of the position (e.g. Special Education)
experience working and leading in both English medium and Kura Kaupapa Maori environments
confident presentation and facilitation skills
proven capability in facilitating change through building and maintaining functional relationships
the ability to work effectively alongside schools and educators to develop systems and practices that foster safe and inclusive environments in a culturally responsive way
a good understanding of the PB4L programme and connection with wider learning support
the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
fluency in Te Reo me tikanga Maori would be an asset, but this is not essential
a full driver licence as travel will be required
The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.

Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whanau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Maori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
