Pastry Chef
Job Description
We are seeking 2 experienced Pastry Chefs to create high-quality pastries, desserts, cakes, and baked goods while maintaining exceptional food standards.
Location: Christchurch
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week
Pay: $28–$35 per hour (based on experience)
Rostered shifts: Flexibility required

Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, bake, cook, decorate, and present a variety of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads, pizzas, pastas, and other food products according to approved recipes and quality standards.
Develop and assist in designing new dessert, pastry, pizza, and pasta menu items, contributing ideas for seasonal and specialty offerings.
Plan production schedules to ensure products are prepared efficiently and available to meet customer demand.
Monitor the quality of ingredients and finished products, ensuring consistency in taste, appearance, and presentation.
Estimate ingredient requirements, manage stock levels, and assist with ordering supplies as required.
Check all ingredients and food products to ensure they are used before spoilage and stored correctly.
Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness across all kitchen and food preparation areas.
Supervise, train, and provide guidance to pastry assistants, kitchen hands, and junior kitchen staff.
Demonstrate baking, cooking, and decorating techniques, and provide training on food preparation procedures.
Assist with kitchen management, menu planning, and daily kitchen operations.
Ensure ovens, mixers, refrigeration units, pizza ovens, and other kitchen equipment are operated, cleaned, maintained, and stored correctly.
Minimise waste and contribute to effective cost control through efficient use of ingredients and resources.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety, sanitation, and food handling regulations.
Requirements:
At least 2 years’ experience in a fast-paced hotel or restaurant environment, or a Level 4 or higher qualification in Baking, Food Production, Cookery, or a related field.
Proven experience in baking, pastry production, and preparing pizzas, desserts, and pastas.
Strong kitchen management, menu planning, stock control, and staff training skills.
Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
Reliable, organised, and able to consistently perform in a fast-paced environment.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Flexible and available to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required.
