About Us:
Are you interested in being at the cutting edge of legislation and policy development for high profile human rights law and equality? Or new civil law? If so consider applying to join us in Civil Law Policy, in the Courts, Civil and Criminal Law Group (CCCL).
We provide legal, policy and reform expertise to the Attorney-General and other Justice Ministers to deliver on their civil law policy responsibilities and the legislative reform program.
We work collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department to ensure policy reform is strategic, relevant, holistic and people-centred.
We are responsible for tort law, human rights and equal opportunity law, succession law, defamation, anti-vilification, trust and property law, civil procedure, guardianship and administration law, elder abuse law, and policy relating to supported decision-making.
About the Role:
The Manager is responsible for leading policy officers within Civil Law Policy in the co-ordination, development, implementation, review and reform of policy and legislation across the Attorney-General's portfolio, whilst providing considered, informed and authoritative advice to the senior executives and government on key policy and legislation issues and system reform issues. You will be joining an inclusive and supportive group and will be provided with a range of training and development opportunities.
Some of your duties will include:
Leading, motivating and managing a team of legal policy officers, providing advice, direction and guidance to plan and deliver significant criminal justice system reforms for the Attorney-General
Providing high-level, expert and authoritative advice to the senior executives and government on major reforms in a complex policy environment
Negotiating with and influencing key stakeholders across the justice system to resolve complex problems that have system wide impacts.

About You:
As our ideal candidate you will have:
A law degree
Knowledge and experience of processes for developing policy and legislation within a parliamentary system
Experience leading and managing a team
Effective writing skills to assist with preparing project briefs, cabinet submissions, drafting instructions, and consultation papers
High level influencing and negotiation skills to work collaboratively with our partners across the department and the broader justice system
Knowledge of the laws relating to one or more subject matters that Civil Law Policy is responsible for (see description above)
