Position Summary
Western Drilling Tools Inc. is seeking highly skilled and motivated Machinists to join our shop. We are hiring for our afternoon shift. Currently we are looking to fill 2 positions, Afternoon CNC Lathe lead Setter and Afternoon shift CNC Mill Setter/Programmer. These are hands-on shop roles focused on producing high-quality precision components. We’re looking for individuals who take pride in their work, can read drawings, run machines safely, and contribute positively to the shop.

CNC Lathe Machinist / Programmer Responsibilities:
Program CNC lathe parts using IGF, G-code ensuring efficient and accurate tool paths.
Interpret engineering drawings and 3D models to determine machining strategies and setup requirements.
Set up and operate Okuma CNC lathes, selecting appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds for each job.
Inspect machined parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometres, vernier callipers) to ensure adherence to tight tolerances and drawing specifications.
Deburr and clean finished parts.
Troubleshoot and optimize machining processes, adjusting programs and setups as needed to improve efficiency and part quality.
Work collaboratively with machinists, production leads, and managers to enhance throughput, reduce downtime, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Maintain documentation for programs, setups, and tooling for repeatable and consistent part production.
Follow all safety protocols, quality standards, and production policies.
CNC Milling Machinist / Programmer Responsibilities:
Program CNC milling parts using Mastercam and G-code, set up, and operate CNC milling machines to produce precision parts to specification
Review and interpret technical drawings and solid models to determine machining strategies, tooling, and setups
Set up and operate 3, 4, and/or 5-axis CNC milling machines as required
Optimize programs and machining processes to improve efficiency, cycle time, and part quality
Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds
Inspect machined parts using precision measuring tools to ensure tolerances and specifications are met
Complete inspection and production documentation accurately
Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and organized
Work collaboratively with machinists, production leads, and managers to enhance throughput, reduce downtime, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Follow all safety protocols, quality standards, and production policies
Education & Experience:
The qualifications listed below apply to the specific position being filled.
CNC Lathe Machinist / Programmer (Afternoon Shift):
6-10 years of CNC lathe machining experience
Strong CNC programming and setup experience required
Proficiency in API threading nomenclature and inspection techniques as well as machining requirements.
Proven experience with Okuma lathes and IGF control systems
Solid working knowledge of G-code editing, tooling selection, and feed/speed optimization
Proficient with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, gauges)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, solid models, and manufacturing documentation
CNC Milling Machinist / Programmer (Afternoon Shift):
Minimum 8-10 years of CNC milling experience
Proven experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines
Experience with 4 and/or 5-axis CNC milling machines is required
Experience with Okuma CNC mills preferred; Haas or Milltronics experience considered an asset
Experience programming using Mastercam and G-code, macro programming
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and solid models
Proficient with precision measuring instruments
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a team environment
Schedule & Shifts
CNC Lathe Department Lead – Afternoon Shift:
Monday – Thursday, 3:30 PM – 2:00AM ( 10 hour shifts X 4 days a week, Overtime as needed)
CNC Milling Department Lead – Afternoon Shift:
Monday – Thursday, 3:30 PM – 2:00AM ( 10 hour shifts X 4 days a week, Overtime as needed)
Training during probation will be on the day shift.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $23.28-$40.69 per hour
