Learning Assistant

Melbourne Grammar School is seeking a vibrant and professional Learning Assistant to join our team.

At Grimwade House, the Learning Assistant plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every child is empowered to thrive. Working closely with classroom teachers and specialist staff, the assistant supports students with diverse learning needs—academic, social, emotional, and behavioural—ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

This role is grounded in the values of care, respect, and collaboration, and contributes meaningfully to the holistic development of students in alignment with Grimwade House’s commitment to nurturing confident, compassionate, and capable learners.

Context

Melbourne Grammar School is one of Australia's leading independent schools that believes in the holistic education of young people. Grimwade House has 680 girls and boys from Prep to Year 6. It is a place where enthusiastic students learn in an environment that is purpose-built to challenge and support them.

The pedagogical framework at Melbourne Grammar School is based around key developmental stages while taking student variations in learning style, interests and relationships into account. Rooted in this philosophy, we offer a broad and challenging curriculum alongside an extensive co-curricular platform. We support students to find their purpose in this evolving world, explore new areas, question and reconsider what they already know.

You will

Support individual students with additional learning needs, including those with disabilities, learning difficulties, or behavioural challenges, under the direction of teaching staff.

Provide in-class support to help students access the curriculum, complete tasks, and participate in classroom activities.

Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that supports student wellbeing and social development.

Promote student independence.

Maintain written documentation on student learning as required.

Supervise students during transitions, breaks, and excursions, ensuring safety and appropriate behaviour.
