As a Junior Recreation Leader, you will assist the Recreation Leader with all aspects of program leadership and supervision of participants in children and youth programs. Such programs may include general recreation and/or social programs, special events, and day camp and outdoor programs. Primary duties include:
Assist co-leaders and programmers in the development and implementation of meaningful plans and activities.
Provide leadership for recreational and/or social programs that focus on social and skill-based outcomes.
Assist leader/instructor in keeping a safe environment for program participants.
Prepare equipment and supplies required for activities with daily set up and clean up.
Be a role model to youth volunteers and participants.
Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
Maintain a high degree of customer service.
Qualifications
Minimum 15 years of age.
Previous volunteer or program leadership experience working with children and planning children's programs, such as volunteering, babysitting, and coaching, will be considered an asset.
Preference will be given to candidates who have participated in Youth Leadership Courses and/or High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification or other agency providing youth leadership training.
You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate an enthusiastic, positive attitude.
You are able to work effectively as a team member and are reliable and flexible.
Pre-employment Requirements
Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required.
A valid Security Clearance must be provided for those under 18 years of age. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Days of Work: This position works daytime, evening and occasional weekend shifts.
