Summary of Position
Department / Research Program: The Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases (RESP)
Program The Nguyen Lab, within the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases (RESP) program of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), is looking for a Junior Assistant to support research projects related to respiratory infections, host-pathogen interactions, antimicrobial resistance, and the discovery of new antimicrobial agents. The incumbent will work closely with laboratory staff and will participate in routine microbiology activities, material and reagent preparation, data entry and management, and the overall organization of the laboratory.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in routine laboratory microbiology procedures and projects, including preparation of culture media, maintenance of bacterial cultures, sample processing, and execution of basic molecular biology techniques.
Prepare materials, reagents and equipment for experiments and ensure that laboratory supplies are adequately stocked and organized.
Records, organizes, and maintains experimental data, laboratory inventories, and research documentation in accordance with laboratory protocols.
Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning, and quality control procedures as required.
Ensure compliance with biosafety, laboratory safety and research ethics requirements.
Perform any other related administrative or laboratory-related tasks, as required and at the request of the immediate supervisor.

Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree
Field of study: Microbiology or related
field Work experience: 0-6 months
Required skills
Knowledge of French is required.
Advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required since the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
Bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field of life sciences.
Prior laboratory experience in microbiology, bacteriology, cell culture, molecular biology or related techniques is considered an asset.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques, bacterial culture methods, and laboratory safety procedures.
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and follow established protocols.
Additional Information
Status: Temporary full-time (35-hour week)
Pay Scale: Based on qualifications and experience
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Work Site: Glen Site, 1001 Blvd. Decarie
