Mo te tunga | About the role

Bay of Plenty District (BPD) Intelligence supports New Zealand Police leaders and officers to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing. Our mahi is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention.

BPD Intelligence is recruiting a Tactical Intelligence Analyst to join our high performing team. This is a District position that may be based at either Tauranga Central police station or BPD headquarters in Rotorua, depending on the preferred applicant. You will work to support the Police Tactical Response Model (TRM). No day will be the same in this role. You will provide intelligence that is timely, accurate, clear, and relevant.

Your work will directly support the Offender Prevention Teams (OPT), Tactical Operations Coordinator (TOC) and Armed Offenders Squad (AOS), as well as other operational groups such as the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB). The analysis you provide will assist with the identification, disruption and apprehension of offenders who are a risk to staff safety and the safety of our communities. This is a high trust environment and one which needs you to be flexible in relation to where and when you may be required to work.

You must be able to cope with the nature of the work we undertake, and the organisational challenges presented in Police Intelligence. The environment can be fast paced and as such you need to be adaptable, flexible and resilient. Time will not always be your friend.

To succeed in this role, you need to be comfortable and confident when talking to others and willing to build your understanding of policing and Intelligence. You will need to work with people from a wide range of internal workgroups and external agencies. Communication is key, as you will be presenting analysis through written reporting and verbal briefings to a range of audiences.

It would be advantageous but not essential if you had some knowledge of geospatial systems and radio communications.

Key Accountabilities:

Critical thinking - able to provide objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement.
Able to recognise problems, distil and define the pertinent issues, and determine and propose effective solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (accurate and concise).
Collaborate on projects and group analysis.
Contribute to core Intelligence reporting and deliverables of the wider group.
Champion diverse worldviews, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.
Able to use technology but equally adapt to non-technical solutions in the field.
He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others. Previous experience working in or with Intelligence is preferred but not required. We are interested in receiving applications from a range of backgrounds and people who are excited about a career in New Zealand Police Intelligence.

The preferred applicants will be able to demonstrate the following:

A sound knowledge of Intelligence practices.
Experience in critical thinking and analysis.
an ability to work effectively in a team environment - bringing positive energy.
Shows initiative and able to work unsupervised (reliable and dependable).
Can work effectively and calmly under pressure.
Able to work to short deadlines.
Comfortable managing multiple demands from a variety of people.
Available at short notice and able to work at alternate locations where required.
Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

Have completed the Tactical Intelligence baseline course or able to complete the course at the earliest opportunity.
Able to deploy to another location at short notice.
Hold a full driver licence or be able to complete early in employment
