About the Role
We have an opportunity for an experienced and delivery-focused payroll professional to join the ANZ HR team on a ~6-month contract. This role will provide end-to-end payroll support in an international environment, while also playing a critical role in stabilising processes, documenting payroll activities, and ensuring a smooth and effective handover to an offshore payroll team.
You will operate as a trusted advisor to the business, balancing hands-on payroll delivery with process improvement, risk mitigation, and structured knowledge transfer. This is a “hit the ground running, leave a legacy” type of contract.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage the monthly end-to-end insourced/outsourced payroll with the ADP vendor for ~280 employees, including payroll tax, superannuation, payroll journals and resolution of payroll queries
Act as the primary ANZ payroll subject matter expert, ensuring continuity and accuracy throughout the contract period
Review, document and standardise payroll processes, controls and calendars to support transition and future sustainability
Partner closely with the offshore Payroll Centre of Excellence, including:
Knowledge transfer and shadowing sessions
Development of handover documentation, SOPs and escalation guides
Supporting the offshore team through parallel runs and transition activities
Prepare internal and external payroll and HR reports, including leadership reporting and WGEA submissions
Implement and embed regional and group payroll processes, policies and controls
Support onboarding and offboarding activities, including payroll setup, inductions and HR exit processes
Respond to employee and line manager queries via direct interaction and ticketing systems
Ensure compliance with local legislation and alignment with global HR frameworks
Contribute to ad hoc payroll projects as required during the contract period
About the Team
The ANZ HR team delivers end-to-end HR support to the Australian business, working closely with global HR centres of excellence. The team includes the Head HR Australia & New Zealand, HR Partner, HR Advisors and HR Administration support, and is known for its pragmatic, high-impact approach in a constantly evolving environment.
About You
You are an experienced Australian payroll professional who thrives in contract roles, enjoys bringing order to complexity, and takes pride in setting teams up for success once you hand over the baton.
You combine technical payroll expertise with strong documentation skills, a collaborative mindset, and the confidence to work across geographies and cultures.
Your Skills & Experience
Extensive experience delivering end-to-end Australian payroll, ideally within financial or professional services
Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
Experience working with semi-outsourced payroll models (ADP experience highly regarded) and HRIS platforms (Success Factors)
Demonstrated experience supporting or transitioning payroll activities to offshore or shared service teams
Advanced Microsoft Excel and system skills, with a passion for streamlining and improving processes
Clear, confident communicator with the ability to produce concise documentation and handover materials
Highly organised, detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
A collaborative, service-oriented approach with the confidence to work independently and make decisions
