Job Description

What will you do?

Develop an overarching mobility strategy, integrating land use and transportation to guide the development of Edmonton’s infrastructure and urban form to grow a healthy, sustainable, and livable city
Plan and initiate strategies that translate the intent of the City Plan into clear guidance and sound implementation for all modes of transportation. Examples of current strategies underway include Mass Transit planning, Active Modes Implementation Guide, and Goods Movement strategy
Ensure that internal and external business partners are identified and appropriately engaged in projects. Interact with business partners across the corporation, including senior leadership, other government agencies and municipalities, industry representatives, educational institutions, community groups, and Edmontonians
Accountable for oversight of multiple operational priorities and projects and make decisions on how to balance competing resource needs
Remain current with technology, industry best practices, and City of Edmonton policy initiatives, and provide professional expertise and mentoring
Ensure the prudent and effective use of financial and human resources in the delivery of the section and unit’s work
Anticipate business opportunities, influence policy, planning and initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies, orders of government, community organizations, and internal departments and branches
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing and registered as practicing with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered
Related leadership experience within a large, complex unionized organization
Advanced knowledge and experience in planning policy in the field of transportation planning
Combinations of education and experience will be considered
Assets:

A Master’s Degree in transportation planning or a related field
Additional training in financial management, public administration, government relations, project management, and/or change management
Skills required for success:

Proven ability to build a respectful workplace culture through a values-based influencer approach and work collaboratively
Understanding of complex municipal subject matter and a proven ability to build influential relationships with internal and external partners
Strong political acumen, strategic planning, issue resolution and decision-making skills
Proven ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences, build positive relationships and establish clear expectations

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

1 permanent, full-time position
Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
Salary: (Annually) $123,938.39 - $154,920.88
Hire is dependent on a Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
