Job Description

You will be a member of our gardening/landscaping team that maintains all exterior grounds at Canada Life Assurance. Our expectations of our grounds are to be maintained at a high standard of a corporate head office building. Successful candidate will have practical knowledge of general grounds keeping processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General maintenance of all exterior plants, shrubs, trees and lawns, consisting of planting, watering, fertilizing, trimming, edging, mowing, sweeping.
Safe operation of electric or gasoline powered grounds equipment of various types of grounds keeping equipment. Such as a lawn tractor, mower, lawn sweeper, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, power broom, edger, grass trimmer.
Assists Gardeners with planting of annuals and various other tasks.
Capable of working alone and performs duties in an ethical and timely manner.
Maintains shop and work area in a clean and safe condition, which includes daily cleaning of courtyard, entrances and general litter collection of the entire grounds.
Adheres to health and safety policies, regulations and safe work practices while operating all equipment and hand tools.
Working outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme heat.
QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled to start or returning to a post secondary educational institution (University or College) upon the completion of his/her assignment.
Previous gardening/ landscaping experience.
Familiarity with the safe operation and maintenance of grounds keeping equipment.
Work requires heavy physical effort including extensive climbing and using heavy materials weighing 31 pounds or more 40% of the time.
Safety wear, personal protection equipment (PPE) and training will be provided.
