Assistant Project Manager - Construction Materials Testing (CMT) – Houston, TX Earth Engineering
Earth Engineering Inc is seeking an organized, dependable, and motivated Assistant Project Manager to support our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) operations throughout the Greater Houston area.
This position works closely with our Senior Project Managers to coordinate field operations, dispatch technicians, manage equipment and fleet readiness, and ensure projects are staffed and completed efficiently. The Assistant Project Manager serves as a liaison between project managers, field technicians, laboratory personnel, contractors, and clients to keep projects moving smoothly.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CMT Technician, Lead Technician, Laboratory Technician, or Construction Inspector looking to transition into project management. As experience grows, this position offers a clear path toward managing projects and client accounts.
Preferred
Experience in Construction Materials Testing (CMT).
Experience in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, field testing, or construction operations.
ACI, NICET, TXDOT, or related certifications.
Dispatching or operations coordination experience.
Familiarity with concrete, soil, and asphalt testing operations.
Responsibilities
Coordinate daily scheduling and dispatching of field technicians.
Work directly with Project Managers to ensure projects are properly staffed and executed.
Coordinate personnel, vehicles, and testing equipment for upcoming projects.
Track technician certifications, project assignments, and equipment availability.
Monitor daily project progress and communicate schedule changes to field personnel.
Assist with training and mentoring new field technicians.
Maintain accountability for company equipment, including Nuclear Density Gauges, concrete testing equipment, and other field testing tools.
Coordinate equipment calibration, maintenance, and inventory.
Ensure company vehicles and field equipment remain clean, organized, and operational.
Review field reports, testing documentation, and daily tickets for completeness.
Assist with resolving scheduling conflicts and field issues.
Develop professional relationships with contractors and clients through responsive communication.
Perform occasional field observations or testing as operational needs require.
Assist in improving operational procedures and workflow efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
2–5 years of Construction Materials Testing (CMT) experience.
Previous experience as a CMT Technician, Lead Technician, Laboratory Technician, or Construction Inspector.
ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I preferred.
TXDOT Certifications preferred.
Nuclear Density Gauge Certification preferred.
NICET or ICC certifications are a plus.
Strong knowledge of construction materials testing procedures and field operations.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and general computer software.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple active projects simultaneously.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is a plus but not required.
Requirements
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Reliable transportation
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding outdoor environments
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb on active construction sites
High School Diploma or GED.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer systems.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
