Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Emergency Food Truck Coordinator in Community Safety.

Reporting to the Food Policy Strategist, the Emergency Food Truck Coordinator (Coordinator) will operate and oversee the use of HRM’s refrigerated Emergency Food Truck to support emergency responses and the movement of food and supplies into and from communities. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with municipal staff and community partners as part of day-today operations to maximize use of the Truck for community food distribution. In the event of an emergency, the Coordinator will support emergency responses as determined by Emergency Management Office. The Coordinator will lead the implementation and evolution of the JustFOOD Community Food Distribution Program, using the Truck to support community-based food programming towards dignified access to food in vulnerable communities. The Coordinator will work with food organizations and suppliers to increase access to food supply and to track community interest, impact and feedback on the program to inform evolution of the service. The Coordinator will use their knowledge of communities and food distribution to inform other municipal initiatives and emergency planning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees, expands, evaluates and shares learnings from the JustFOOD Community Food Distribution Program, in collaboration with municipal food staff and community partners.
Safely operates and ensures maintenance of the Truck, supported by Corporate Fleet.
Utilizes the Truck and supporting equipment to source, transport, and deliver food and other supplies for municipal and community food programs.
Develops and maintains strong community partner relationships through timely and open communication and consistent customer service.
During emergency events, pivots to supporting emergency food response, which could include the movement and transportation of equipment and food, as directed by Emergency Measures.
Oversees the usage and bookings of the Truck by internal and community partners, ensuring that it is available for deployment in the event of an emergency.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Grade 12 education;
Valid NS Class 5 driver’s license (and satisfactory driver’s abstract); and
Minimum three years’ customer service experience.

Some light physical activities such as walking, bending, sitting, standing, lifting light to medium weight objects, and intermittent periods of driving.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, full-time
HOURS OF WORK: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Overtime work may be required during emergencies. Flex options to work outside of these hours and hybrid may be available.
SALARY: Group 5, NSGEU Local 222, $30.28 hourly.
WORK LOCATION: Alderney Gate, 40 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth, NS.
