Reporting to the Operations Manager - the Electrical Engineer In Training will be accountable for executing projects through sound engineering expertise under the supervision of senior staff. Specifically focusing on design, drafting and analysis of power systems, the successful candidate will be part of a team executing design projects and develop project management skills. Sectors served by Magna IV Engineering include power utilities, oil and gas industry, bulk material handling, pulp and paper, industrial substations, generation facilities, renewables facilities, co-generation units, and others.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the Electrical EIT include the application of engineering principles to successfully perform design tasks with guidance provided by the lead engineer.
Engineering & Design (~90% time commitment)
Understanding & application of design standards and codes such as Canadian Electrical Code C22.1 Part 1 and IEEE publications.
Power system modelling and studies using software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, EMTP, CDEGS, XGSLab. Studies include load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, motor starting, harmonic evaluation, grounding etc.
Perform design drafting tasks using AutoCAD to develop single line diagrams, general arrangements, control schematics, logic diagrams etc.
Develop protection relay settings and load settings into relays for testing.
Prepare technical schedules such as for cables, conduit, panels.
Prepare technical reports for review.
Ability to review, interpret, understand and query design drawings.
Demonstrate desire for professional and self development, willingness to learn and show initiative in researching technical information to provide input/feedback on design ideas.
Understand and apply Magna’s internal policies.
Follow instructions from lead engineers and other senior staff.
