About the Role
The Coordinator, Library Makerspace will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Croydon Library Makerspace, a pilot initiative delivered in partnership between Swinburne Library and the Croydon VET campus. This trial program will run from August to November 2025. Working under general direction, the coordinator will play a key role in supporting this innovative space designed to foster hands-on learning, creativity, and cross-disciplinary engagement among students.

As Swinburne is a dual-sector learning institution, the Makerspace offers a unique opportunity to enhance student learning by providing a welcoming, inclusive environment where students can explore creative ideas, collaborate across disciplines, and engage with new materials and technologies. The successful candidate will have a background in a creative arts field, such as design, visual arts, media, or similar, that enables them to guide and inspire students in creative experimentation and problem-solving.

In this role, you will ensure the smooth daily operation of the Makerspace, welcoming users and supporting their exploration of the space. You will provide guidance on the safe and effective use of tools and materials, foster a collaborative and respectful atmosphere, and encourage users to engage meaningfully with the resources available. You will also be responsible for monitoring attendance, tracking materials usage and inventory levels, and maintaining accurate records related to procedures, instructions, and risk assessments.

This position is ideal for someone with a passion for creativity, hands-on learning, and diverse student engagement, who is eager to contribute to a vibrant and evolving educational initiative.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding experiences and services to users.
Demonstrated, relevant experience in the provision of high-quality support services to a diverse group of users, including those for whom English is not a first language
Demonstrated skill in demonstrations of safe and effective use of simple technological and non-technological equipment
Demonstrated experience in ensuring Makerspace equipment is used in a safe manner that complies with any relevant policy and/or procedure

Qualifications
A graduate qualification in a Library Diploma course or an appropriate discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training
