Support management of compliance
Interesting wide range of stakeholders
Transpower's purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable, secure electricity system.

As the owner and operator of the National Grid, Transpower provides the infrastructure and market systems that connect electricity generators to major users and the distribution networks that deliver electricity to homes and businesses across the country.

About the team

The Operations team provides outage planning and real time asset operations to the Grid Owner and undertakes the role of System Operator for Aotearoa's power system. At the forefront of driving the energy transition, the Operations team has a strong focus on developing the people, systems and processes that are fit for purpose now and into the future.

There are two key parts to our business which reflect New Zealand legislative requirements for the power system. As the Grid Owner, we own and operate the National Grid. As the System Operator, we are responsible for managing the real-time power system and operating the wholesale electricity market.

About the opportunity

As System Operator, we monitor and report on compliance by other industry participants. In addition, the System Operator must follow a range of legal requirements and procedures in the delivery of its core functions. https://www.ea.govt.nz/code-and-compliance/

As Compliance Advisor you will be responsible for supporting the management and administration of the System Operator compliance function across these two areas, providing compliance awareness and training within Transpower, identifying compliance risks, and managing compliance systems.

Working with our Corporate Counsel - Compliance Impartiality, this position also ensures compliance by the System Operator through the development and implementation of robust compliance processes and procedures.

This is a great permanent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with a range of stakeholders, understands and enjoys working with a compliance and continuous improvement focus, staying abreast of regulatory developments, and who wants to work in a dynamic and future focused sector.

You'll enjoy lots of on the job learning yourself as you discover what it takes to manage the real-time power system and operating of Aotearoa's wholesale electricity market, whilst working alongside and with the fantastic people in the System Operator (Operations).

What will you bring?

With a commitment to compliance and continuous improvement, ideally you will hold a relevant qualification preferably in Law or Engineering, and will bring familiarity with legal or regulatory frameworks - such as experience working within a regulated industry - which will support your understanding of compliance decision-making and considerations. Within your wider skills and experience you will possess outstanding ability to build relationships and navigate technical subject matter. Your CV and cover letter will clearly demonstrate:

Proven experience in internal compliance, investigations and reporting.
Experience in dealing with regulators.
Demonstrable skills in influencing and excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to drive value outcomes in a complex regulated environment.
