Te Tūranga – About the role

We’re seeking a motivated, adaptable Category Assistant for our Merchandise team. This entry-level role offers insight into large retail operations, working with Category Managers, suppliers and internal teams across New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square. You’ll handle product, pricing and promotional admin, store queries and support daily category operations in a fast-paced environment. No grocery or FMCG experience required - many have advanced from this role, regardless of background.

As a Category Assistant, you’ll be:

Managing product, pricing and promotional administration for your category

Supporting promotional execution, including proofing and meeting mailer deadlines

Responding to store queries clearly and professionally

Working with suppliers and internal stakeholders via email and meetings

Assisting with competitor analysis and post-promotion reviews

Supporting wider planning and marketing activity

This role operates to very short deadlines, so strong organisation, accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

You’re eager to learn, comfortable in a fast-paced environment and ready to take ownership of your work. You bring maturity to how you communicate, especially when dealing with suppliers and stakeholders, and you’re comfortable juggling multiple priorities at once.

You’ll bring:

A strong willingness to learn and grow in a commercial environment

Great attention to detail and confidence working to tight timeframes

Clear, professional communication skills

Resilience and adaptability when things move quickly

A process-driven mindset

Intermediate Excel skills (including XLOOKUP)

Experience in Retail, FMCG or Grocery is a bonus – but not required
