Case Manager

Ara Poutama Aotearoa is seeking committed and motivated individuals to join our case management team. This role is suited to people seeking meaningful work that contributes to public safety and supports positive, long-term change within the community. Applications are welcome from those with relevant professional or lived experience, as well as recent graduates in disciplines such as Criminology, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields.

As a Case Manager, you will work directly with people in our care and their whanau to address offending needs, support rehabilitation, and reduce reoffending. This role requires professionalism, sound judgement, and a commitment to treating all people with dignity and respect.

Please note shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an assessment on Friday 24 July. Outcomes will be advised during the preceding week.

Mo te Tunga | Key Responsibilities

Case Managers lead the rehabilitation and reintegration process for people under our supervision, applying a person-centred and evidence-based approach. Guided by the Department's values you will:

Assess and manage rehabilitation and reintegration needs, considering family, whanau, and pro-social supports
Engage with people in our care using risk, need, and responsivity principles
Prepare high-quality reports for the New Zealand Parole Board
Apply motivational and strengths-based approaches to support sustainable behaviour change
Work collaboratively with internal staff, external agencies, and community partners
Partner with Maori leadership and specialist services to support culturally responsive pathways, particularly for Maori
Upholding the mana and dignity of those in our care underpins all aspects of this role.

Nga Pukenga me Nga Wheako | Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Significant life experience with a strong commitment to learning; or a recent qualification in social services, psychology, or related fields
The ability to work safely and effectively within a correctional environment
Strong written communication skills, including report writing to legal standards
Effective time management, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
A reflective practice mindset, including openness to feedback
Well-developed relationship-building and engagement skills
The ability to motivate and support long-term positive change
Critical thinking skills, including awareness of bias in decision-making
Knowledge and experience working with Maori and Pacific peoples, their whanau, and communities
You must hold a full, current New Zealand driver licence, and have the legal right to work in New Zealand. In line with Immigration New Zealand requirements, priority will be given to applicants who already hold this right.

Nga Painga | Benefits

Starting salary from $70,956 per annum, progressing through a five-step competency framework to $91,307 per annum
